After touring the FDR home, be sure to visit the Presidential Library and Museum located a short distance from the entrance to President Roosevelt's house.

  • Learn about the only President of the U.S. Elected to four terms.

  • Learn about the first Presidential Library that was started by Roosevelt here at his home in Hyde Park.

  • Listen to the voice of FDR as he led America out of the great depression; and as he leads America to victory in World War II.

  • Enjoy a guided tour of FDR's home and then take a self-guided tour of the Museum; walk the grounds, gardens, and trails of this 300-acre site. You may want to start your visit at the Henry A. Wallace Visitor and Education Center where you can see an introductory film and then arrange for self-guided tours of the Presidential Library and Museum and Ranger-led tours of the historic home. Plan a minimum of two and one half hours to visit.

The rector of St. James Episcopal Church read the burial services, three volleys were fired over the grave and taps were sounded as the casket was lowered into its final resting place."

    Franklin Delano Roosevelt was inaugurated to a fourth term in January of 1945. He served only a few months, dying of a cerebral hemorrhage at Warm Springs, Georgia in April. The nation mourned his passing. As he had requested, his body came home for burial. His grave and that of his wife Eleanor, lie in the Rose Garden at Springwood.

    Between tours and learning about the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt; walk the grounds of this historic site. The grounds are beautiful. For a more challenging walk; go hiking on the trails between the Hudson River and the FDR home and Presidential Library.

    Eleanor Roosevelt's Val-Kill Historic Site
    Visit the only national historic site that is dedicated to a First Lady. Val-Kill is Eleanor Roosevelt's modest home and retreat on the grounds of the Franklin D. Roosevelt estate. Eleanor, the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, changed the role of the first lady through her active participation in American politics. Visitors may tour Mrs. Roosevelt's Val-Kill Cottage and enjoy the lovely gardens and grounds on the site. Be sure to see the introductory film "Close to Home". This is a 90 minute experience.

    • World Heritage in the United States Junior Ranger Program
